With the start of the new school year, the Cyprus Shipping Chamber is launching for the 18th consecutive year the “Adopt a Ship” Programme in elementary schools. At the beginning of each school year, the Chamber invites elementary schools across Cyprus to participate and its Member-Companies to include ships in the Programme. Each ship is then connected and “adopted” by an elementary school class.

The “Adopt a Ship “Programme, a key initiative of the Cyprus Shipping Chamber operating in cooperation with the Cyprus Marine Environment Protection Association (CYMEPA), has garnered significant attention for its innovative approach to bring together elementary schools and Seafarers on board Chamber Members ships in order to provide to the elementary school students a real-world learning experience about Shipping. It has been so well-received that it is now being launched in other countries as well, spreading the benefits of this innovative educational initiative globally. Today the Programme runs in five countries, USA, Greece, Poland, Philippines and India.

Taking this opportunity, the Chamber is pleased to share the highlights video of the “Adopt a Ship” Event held in April, celebrating the successful participation of 1,000 ships from its Member-Companies since the Programme’s launch in 2006 and as part of the Chamber’s activities for its 35th Anniversary.
