The proceedings of the 12th Maritime Conference co-organized by the weekly subscription newspaper Maritime Economies & the Institute of Maritime & Economic Strategy on January 9, 2020 at the conference venue of the War Museum were concluded with great success.

At the beginning of the conference, greetings were addressed by:

Ioannis Plakiotakis, Minister of Shipping & Island Policy
Natasa Pileidou, Cyprus Shipping Deputy Minister to the President

The conference started with the speech of the keynote speaker capt. Dimitris Matthaiou, CEO at Arcadia Shipmanagement Co Ltd. & Aegean Bulk Co Inc. Chairman at Green Award Foundation.

The conference was divided into two large sessions. The first session dealt with the part of shipping finance. Representatives from listed shipping companies on the international stock exchanges, as well as representatives of companies that are not listed, faced the dilemma "whether it is worth it today for a shipping company to be listed on a major stock exchange or not".

Environmental regulations and new regulations on new fuels also preoccupied the excellent speakers, further putting them in the dilemma of whether a charterer or even a prospective financier would prefer a company with environmental sensitivities or whether this is irrelevant to the funding issue.

Coordinator of the session is Mr. Giorgos Xiradakis, MD of XRTC

Speakers:

Yannis Platsidakis, Managing Director, Anangel Maritime Services
 Simos Varias, Director, Varship shipping
Haris Kosmatos, Corporate Development Officer, Tsakos Energy
 Aristides Pittas, Managing director, EUROSEAS
Kostas Rokkos, CEO, TST International Shipping S.A.
 Giannis Georgoulas, non-executive director, Ecombx

In the second session, the distinguished speakers, representatives from Bunkering oil companies, from lng supply companies, from international classifiers as well as manufacturers and sellers of Scruber solutions, developed a fruitful debate on the controversial topic of choosing a shipping company that wants to comply with the emission rules avuncular.

LNG-type fuel supply solutions in contrast to the use of heavy-duty fuels using SCRUBBER or light fuel with increased purchase costs, engaged the speakers of the second session and led to an interesting discussion which for the first time took place so live in front of an audience with the presence and simultaneous placement of all.

The coordinator of the session is Mr. Panos Zachariadis, Fleet Manager, Atlantic Bulk Carriers Management Ltd
