Report of the 14th Maritime Conference
MARITIME ECONOMIES
The work of the 14th Maritime Conference co-organized by the Maritime newspaper MARITIME ECONOMIES with the Institute of Maritime & Economic Strategy was concluded with great success.
At a time when the health crisis had limited the conference events, the organizers once again, as in 10 years ago, were the first to set foot in the Maritime conferences of the year.
The 14th Maritime Conference entitled:
2022, Shipping Markets at the end of the Covid Crisis
It was divided into official greetings and 2 main Sessions.
During the official Greetings, the videotaped speeches of the Minister of Shipping and Island Policy, Mr. Ioannis Plakiotakis, and the Deputy Minister of Shipping of Cyprus, Mr. Vasilios Dimitriadis, were shown.
Then followed the speech of the Keynote Speaker Capt. Dimitris Matthaiou, CEO of ARCADIA SHIPMANAGEMENT, where environmental and Maritime issues were developed in an amazing combination.
In the First on Shipping in a Covid World, the issues of Shipping supply and demand in the post-Covid Era were developed. The distinguished speakers, representatives of major shipping companies, discussed issues starting from the increase in freight rates and the relay race between Tankers in trucks and Containers, up to the strategic decision they had to make 2 years ago, some choosing scrubbers and others Low Sulfur.

In the Second Session on The Role of Oil Vs Clean Energy for the wet sector, the sensitive issues of the environmental responsibility of Shipping and the position of the Industry in terms of ESG were developed.
In more detail The 2 representatives of large Oil companies, Motor Oil and Elinoil, the 2 Classifiers DNV and Bureau Verittas, developed their positions on whether the Energy Price Crisis helps the smooth effort for Energy Transition, and whether the classifiers encountered technical problems on ships of their customers, who chose, as part of their compliance for low pollutant emissions, the choice of alternative fuels or scrubbers.
