Vessels, Ordered by Oceania Shipping Company, to be Delivered by 2028

Samsung Heavy Industries disclosed on Jan. 2 that it won a contract for two liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers worth 721.1 billion won from a shipping company in the Oceania region on Dec. 31 last year.

The vessels are scheduled to be delivered sequentially by September 2028.

With this contract, Samsung Heavy Industries secured orders for a total of 43 vessels worth $7.9 billion (approximately 11.4 trillion won) last year, exceeding the previous year’s order performance ($7.3 billion, 36 vessels).

The orders Samsung Heavy Industries won last year include 11 LNG carriers, 9 shuttle tankers, 9 container carriers, 2 ethane carriers, and 11 crude oil carriers. The company also secured one preliminary work contract for offshore production facilities. The order backlog as of the end of last year reached 133 vessels worth $28.6 billion.

A company official said, “Last year, despite the turbulent business environment including trade tariff barriers from the United States, we were able to exceed the previous year’s order performance through our profitability-focused selective order strategy based on stable order backlog,” adding, “We expect the solid order flow, including the recovery in LNG carrier orders, to continue this year.”
