SK Group Vice Chairman Choi Jae-won emphasized that  liquefied natural gas is no longer a bridge fuel, but a partner fuel that will lead the artificial intelligence  era.  Chey argued that global cooperation is necessary for the stable and sustainable supply of LNG.

Chey made these remarks during his keynote speech at the Asia Pacific LNG Connect session of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation  CEO Summit held at the Gyeongju Arts Center on Oct. 31. He stressed the importance of LNG in driving the AI era and the need for international cooperation to ensure its stable supply.

“Energy consumption by data centers is expected to approach 4% of global electricity by 2030, reaching 1,000 terawatt-hours (TWh), equivalent to the electricity consumption of all households in the United States,” Chet said. “Where this enormous amount of energy will come from, and how it can be supplied reliably and in an environmentally friendly manner, is a crucial global challenge.”

He viewed LNG as the solution to the contemporary challenge of environmentally friendly energy supply. “LNG is not only an important fuel to lead the energy transition but also a catalyst and the future that drives innovation,” he stated.

Chey also emphasized the importance of U.S. shale gas and LNG. “It was U.S. LNG that kept factories running and homes warm even when European natural gas supply was unstable recently,” he said, adding that “U.S. shale gas and LNG are key to reliability.”

Finally, Chey concluded, “Ensuring sustainable and reliable energy for AI is impossible for any single organization or country alone. To achieve this, governments, businesses, and the entire world must join forces and respond together.”
