The latest U.S. tariffs could cost the Polish economy 0.4% of gross domestic product or roughly 10 billion zlotys ($2.64 billion), according to a preliminary estimate shared by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
“A severe and unpleasant blow, because it comes from the closest ally, but we will survive it. Our friendship must also survive this test,” he said in a Google-translated post on the X social media platform.
As a member of the European Union, Poland was hit with 20% of reciprocal levies under White House leader Donald Trump’s latest set of levies disclosed on Wednesday, which have weighed on markets and dismayed the U.S.′ trade counterparts.
The International Monetary Fund most recently assessed that the economy of Poland, which has historically maintained close relations with the U.S., would expand by 3.5% this year.
