The Shipping of the Greeks: The numbers of supremacy

An impressive in terms of video content was shown in the second part of the annual regular general assembly of the Hellenic Shipowners' Association last Wednesday before its President Melina Traulou introduced the Union's guest of honor, Secretary General of the International Maritime Organization, Arsenio Dominguez.

The video described with numbers the current picture of the Greek-owned merchant fleet.
With the hashtag #PontoporosProtoporos, the video stated, among other things, that the Greek shipping company controls:

 20% of global capacity
 23% of LNG carriers
 30% of the world tanker fleet
 25% of the world's dry bulk fleet

The Greek-owned fleet includes:

 2602 Bulk carriers
 507 Chemical & product tankers
 910 Oil tankers
 147 LNG carriers
 163 LPG carriers
 504 Containerships
 229 General cargo ships
 71 Vehicles carriers

Greek shipping maintains a leading position in Europe as well as controls

 60% of the capacity of European Shipping
 75% of tankers controlled by the European Union (EU)
 80% of dry bulk vessels controlled by the EU
 82% of LNG carriers controlled by the EU

Pioneer

Greek shipping is a pioneer as it is the #1 largest fleet operating on alternative fuels

 6.7% of the Greek-owned fleet is able to dual-fuel with LNG, while the global fleet figure is 5.3%
 is #2 largest SOx scrubber-fitted fleet
 36% of the Greek-owned new tankers to be delivered (orderbook) will be equipped with sulfur oxide cleaning systems, while the percentage of the global fleet is 24%
 35% of the Greek-owned fleet is equipped with energy-saving technologies, while the percentage of the global fleet is 23%

Shipping + society always together

At the same time, the video presents a part of the social contribution of Greek shipping

 130+ million euros in Greek society (2013-2023)
 80+ million euros of social contribution
 50+ million euros for the affected areas of Thessaly
